“Depend on it. God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply. He is too wise a God to frustrate His purposes for lack of funds, and He can just as easily supply them ahead of time as afterwards, and He much prefers doing so.”
- James Hudson Taylor (Pioneer Missionary to China)
Our Vision of Giving
Consider the Lilies (Matthew 6:25-34): Our vision of giving begins with a belief in a generous God who is the source and provider of all creation. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus lays out a simple principle: he who clothes the lilies and feeds the sparrows, will also provide for you. Our jobs, our hands, our resources are not our providers. God is the source of all our provision. As the hymn writer beautifully penned, “All I have needed, your hand hath provided. Great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me.”
Widow’s Two Mites (Luke 21:1-4): A giving that honors God begins with a heart of sincerity and wholehearted devotion. The amount of the gift is not what matters, it is the wholehearted giving that mattered most. The widow’s mite teaches us that God’s eyes are drawn to our humble act of sincere offering.
Partnership in God’s Mission (2 Corinthians 8:1-5): The Macedonian church serves as a model for our partnership in missions. Out of their abundance of joy in the gospel and despite their extreme poverty, they responded in an overflowing wealth of generosity. Like the Macedonian church partnered with the Apostle Paul in the spread of the Gospel, God invites us to partner in his kingdom work today.
